Players, Former Players, and Coaches -- NAQT has received several questions over the summer about whether or not its writers are allowed to do work for other quiz bowl organizations. I wanted to address that issue in a public forum since it seemed like there might be widespread misconceptions about our policy. NAQT permits its contract writers to write, edit, administer, or otherwise participate in other quiz bowl-related activities whether they are one-off tournaments or organizations and regardless of their for-profit status. In fact, the people that are interested in contributing to quiz bowl in every possible way are likely to be exactly those people we would want to be involved with NAQT. Just to be explicit, we have no problem with people writing for NAQT at the same time that they also writing for ACF, PACE, or even their own question-writing companies. We can also classify writers into groups to ensure that their questions are only used in sets on which they won't be playing. For instance active Division I college players can write for Division II and active Division II college players can choose to write for either all of NAQT's invitational series or just the A-level ones. One can continue to compete in NAQT's college-level tournaments for many years while being paid to write for our lower-level tournaments. We currently pay $1.95 per standard tossup or bonus and are always looking for new writers. If you're interested, please submit a writing sample: http://www.naqt.com/jobs.html And, if you have questions, please don't hesitate to contact us at naqt-at-naqt.com. -- R.
