Thanks to everybody all around for their patience. We're going to open the gates for entrants for a Shorter College NAQT CUT-style invitational on November 3 and ACF Fall on November 4. The two tournaments are connected at the hip; we will provide a significant discount for teams that play both. ----- The tournament on Saturday, November 3 will be run with NAQT questions (set IS-70). It is intended for novice or small-school teams, and will be run according to CUT-style rules – in summary, individuals ineligible for Division-II play at an NAQT SCT may only play on two- or one-person teams, and individuals who have averaged 2.5 tossups per game at an ICT may only play as a solo team. The CUT-style standards may be found at: http://www.naqt.com/hosting/cut-style.html Fees for the CUT-style on Saturday are: Base fee, 1st team: $90 Base fee, each additional team: $80 Discounts: -$10 for teams traveling > 200 miles (checked against Google Maps) -$5 for each buzzer system supplied (up to 2) -$10 for schools providing an EXPERIENCED reader (See the ACF Fall announcement below for the discount for both tournaments.) We will open up registration Saturday morning at 9:00 AM; a general meeting will be held at 9:30 AM, and first games will start at 10:00 AM. Note that this tournament is taking place in parallel with the ACBL tournament at Snead State on November 2nd. We're using this packet in agreement with the ACBL. If you're a two-year college in the state of Alabama, we're going to request that you NOT play our tournament; you should be playing at Snead State on November 2nd. (If you're doing this, and you want to be at ACF Fall on Sunday, please let us know; we can probably negotiate a discounted fee.) ----- We're genuinely excited to open up our campus for the Southeast version of ACF Fall on Sunday, November 4. This will be our first experience hosting a tournament of this magnitude (we'd be lying if we didn't admit we're looking at the other schools hosting and muttering to ourselves "dear God, what have we gotten ourselves into?") and we're putting a big priority on HOSTING a tournament in a way that you can enjoy and feel welcomed at. We want teams who have never played an ACF tournament before at Shorter, and we want this to be a springboard for broadening the game in the Southeast. Fees for ACF Fall on Sunday are: Base fee, 1st team: $100 Base fee, each additional team: $90 Discounts/penalties for packet submission applied per: http://www.hsquizbowl.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4168 Discounts: -$10 for teams traveling > 200 miles (checked against Google Maps) -$40 for teams also playing NAQT/CUT-Style on Saturday -$5 for each buzzer system supplied (up to 2) -$10 for providing an EXPERIENCED reader Minimum fee, regardless of discounts earned: $25 We will open up registration Sunday morning at 8:00 AM; a general meeting will be held at 8:30 AM, and first games will start at 9:00 AM. We're presently working on finding a good hotel to point people towards who want to spend the night. We'll post updates to this announcement on the hsquizbowl.org message boards. Requests for information and commitments to attending should be directed to the Shorter Academic Bowl e-mail – shorterab_at_... - and we'll be as quick as possible in keeping you posted on developments. We look forward to seeing you on the weekend of the 3rd and 4th of November at Shorter! Chuck Pearson Advisor, Shorter Academic Bowl
