8th annual Novice tournament at USF - Oct. 27

The Quiz Bowl Team at USF cordially invites you to attend its eighth
annual NOVICE INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT on Saturday, October 27, 2007 in
Cooper Hall on the campus of the University of South Florida in Tampa.

Over the past seven years, this event has grown
to more than 20 teams from all over the state and the South. It is a
great way to introduce your newer players to quiz bowl competition.

This year's theme: HALLOWEEN BUZZ '07 - Don't be afraid to buzz in!

To register, please email: Jeremy.Rasmussen at gmail.com no later than
Oct. 13, and let me know the number of teams, buzzers, and readers you
will be bringing. We will provide official receipts at the
tournament. 

Eligibility: The tournament field is open to teams composed of players
in their first or second year of collegiate quiz bowl competition, all
of whom attend the same school (different campuses OK). It is also
open to high school teams. "Spoiler" college teams may also register;
however, they will be ineligible for prizes.

Format: Each match will consist of 20 tossups and bonuses, divided
into two untimed halves. The tournament will consist of some form of
round robin followed by a playoff to decide the tournament champion.
We are using NAQT Set IS-70.

Schedule: Team sign-in is from 8-9 a.m. in Cooper Hall (further
details to be announced).

Lunch: We will provide pizza and soft drinks for lunch at the
tournament so that everyone does not have to go out to eat. We will
leave out a box for donations. There is usually a "name that tune"
music contest with prizes as well!

!! Costumes !!  As this is the closest tournament to Halloween, feel
free to dress in your costume. The weirder, the better! There will be
prizes for the best costumes.

Tournament Fees:
* Base Registration Fee: $110
* Equipment Discount: -$10 per working buzzer that we use
* Moderator Discount: -$10 per experienced moderator or tournament
official (statkeeper/scorekeeper)
* Extra teams:
>> Second team discount - $10
>> Third team discount - $20
>> Fourth team discount - $30
>> Fifth team discount - $40
Minimum fee (with all discounts): $60 per team
* Purchase of Question Packets: $35 (This all goes to NAQT)
* Fee for any team that registers via email but then cancels or fails
to show for non-emergency reasons without notifying me via email two
days in advance: $25
