As you probably know, UTC is hosting an intercollegiate quizbowl tournament, the Moon Pie Classic, on Sat. 3/29/08. We have recently made some major changes to this event. As with our other collegiate tournaments, the Moon Pie field is split into two divisions, based on players' experience. We are now mirroring not one, but two other tournaments. Moon Pie's Division I, for veterans in their third year of intercollegiate play and beyond, will mirror a tournament called FICHTE. That will be a timed tournament played on NAQT rules, with questions designed to be challenging for experienced teams. Moon Pie's Division II will now mirror the Minnesota Undergraduate Tournament (MUT), an untimed tournament suitable for novice collegiate teams. Because both those tournaments have other mirrors, we will allow any Division II team that wishes to compete in Division I instead, and we will consider on a case-by-case basis the eligibility of a Division I team that will attend another FICHTE mirror. For several reasons, but mostly for simplicity's sake, we plan to separate the tournament into two neighboring buildings. However, both will begin with the usual meeting in Grote 129 on the UTC campus, with registration beginning at 9 AM, announcements at 9:45, and tournament play beginning at 10 AM. We also remind you that we are following the Moon Pie Classic with an open trash tournament, the RC Cola Classic (Sunday 3/30/08). You can contact the team account at utcquizbowl[at] gmail [dot] com to register, or to sign up as a free agent for RC Cola, or for further details on these tournaments. P.S. We're also hosting TRASHionals on Sat.-Sun., April 5-6. We will need volunteers for that as well. I can promise you that TRASHionals is enough fun to be worth showing up just as a spectator, so please join us if you can. You can earn major discounts off your Moon Pie/RC Cola fees if you volunteer for TRASHionals.
