The World Quizzing Championships will be held on Saturday, June 7th, 2008. We are looking for organizers that can find a place to hold the quiz and report back results. An independent proctor that will not take part in the quiz is required to oversee the event, which is undertaken without use of reference materials by individuals. Each half of the test (four categories) will take on hour, and there will be a couple of marking times where contestants swap papers for grading, so figure on about 3 hours total. In the past, the event has been held in college classrooms, bars, restaurants, and even an athletic club. This quiz will be provided free of charge. The quiz will be given at approximately the same time worldwide (+/- a couple hours) everywhere, so that in North America this would take place in the morning starting no later than 11am ET, 10am CT, 9am MT, or 8am PT. Questions have been submitted by 10 countries from disparate corners of the world that have been balanced between regions, and there are 25 countries thus far taking part. The quiz is also being translated into languages other than English for some of these sites. BBC Worldwide will provide news coverage of this contest. The materials will be shipped on hardcopy to arrive at to the proctor no later than Friday June 6. Included will be answer sheets, keys, audio cd, printed images along with a powerpoint file for projection of images should that be available. The only equipment needed will be writing surfaces and a CD or MP3 player for performance of the audio on the CD. For those interested in hosting should provide information about their previous experience in conducting intellectual competitions.
