Hello-- This summer, Josh Miller and I plan to write the questions for an mACF masters tournament. We're currently looking into the possibility of hosting it in Boston, probably somewhere in the mid-July to early-August range; if other teams are interested, we'd be happy to consider holding mirrors elsewhere in the country the same weekend. This is a very preliminary announcement to make sure people would be interested in attending and to find out whether any other sites would like to run a mirror. The tournament will be modified ACF--mostly academic, that is, but with some current events and pop culture. As to difficulty, we'll aim for the level of ACF Regionals. Our plan is to make sure that almost every tossup will be answerable in almost every room, though we'll assume (since this is a masters event) that the average team will be somewhat better than the average team during the year. For those of you who don't know us, Josh is a senior at Swarthmore and I'm a 1999 Swarthmore grad. Between the two of us, I believe we've edited seven tournaments or so; assuming (as seems very likely) that we do go ahead with the tournament, we'll make available a sample of our past questions so you'll have a better idea of what to expect. At this point, we already have a couple packets written and we're looking forward to going ahead with the tournament. So, if you think you'd be interested in attending a masters tournament in Boston this summer, please let me know. We'd like a preliminary idea of how much interest there is, so if you think there's a good chance that you'd come, please tell us. Likewise, if you might be interested in hosting a tournament using our questions, please let us know that, too. We'd be interested in alternate sites if our Boston plans don't work out, and it would be nice to have a mirror or two in any case. Again, we're not looking for an ironclad commitment, but let us know if you're interested and there's a good chance we can work something out. Thanks a lot! We hope to hear from you soon, and to see you this summer! Edward Cohn edwardcohn_at_...
