These aren't responded to in order. "As stated by one moderator, "Don't complain to me about the questions. I didn't write them. I didn't edit them. I don't like them. I don't care what you think about them." Customer service at its worst. And no, he wasn't being sarcastic." Some volunteers were not related to ACF in any way. Had it not been Easter weekend, I would have volunteered the same attitude. Unless readers are getting paid in some way, deal with it - they don't deserve to get your complaints if they give up a day to help you and they're not actually difficult during the round. "On a positive note, did anyone else notice the increase in women? At the 1994 ACF Nationals, I think there were only 5 or 6 total. Now, it appears to be about 20%. It's almost to where a guy can go to a tournament looking for a date, unless he's already married. Of course the gals are stuck with a choice of Geek A, Geek B, both, or neither for five points each. :=}" An article about Georgetown in the student paper during the old College Bowl days mentioned that Tulane, including a "little bit of Southern charm", had two females on its team. The above comment isn't as bad, but it's close. An attitude, even in jest, that females at quizbowl tournaments are there primarily as dating material both discourages women (who make up approximately half of most campuses) from playing and tends to encourage behavior that many perceive as stalking (for that discussion, see the qb list at this same time _last_ year). I apologize to Mr. Beshear if I've overreacted, but people seriously espousing this attitude have made practices and tournaments at different schools very difficult for many concerned - and it doesn't seem like the problem is close to going away.
