[ continued from previous message ] * There is no cost for the questions. Hosts of State Championships do not need to pay anything at all (to NAQT) to host the events. In exchange, NAQT expects a greater attention to detail than at its other tournaments. This could take the form of searching out better rooms, paying good moderators to make the trip, providing free soda, or anything else that enhances the tournament experience. * Hosts are expected to provide two officials for each room: one moderator and one scorekeeper. * Hosts may set an appropriate entry fee taking into account their costs of copying, room rental, food, and other expenses. They should also consider the traditions of the region when choosing this price. * State Championships are intended to be a major way in which teams qualify for the HS NCT. For tournaments with a single division, at least the top four finishers will qualify for the HS NCT. For tournaments with multiple divisions, at least the winners of each division will qualify. NAQT will consider the size and strength of the field of each tournament with respect to the rest of the nation to determine how many additional teams will qualify from each event. * Hosts may not close their field until seven days before the tournament. If a host does not have the resources to handle the number of teams that wish to play (even with the assistance of NAQT personnel and equipment), alternatives will be sought. It is important that no team be turned away. Teams who attempt to register fewer than seven days before the tournament may be accepted or rejected at the host's discretion. * State Championships are restricted to teams from a single state unless prior arrangements have been made with NAQT. * For the purposes of State Championships, NAQT collects Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine under the "NAQT New England Championship." Hosts are expected to bid for this event rather than for a championship for a single one of the constituent states. * The tournament is expected to be billed as the "NAQT Winnemac Championship" except in states where there are existing state championship tournaments that object to its use; here the event should be billed as the "NAQT Winnemac Qualifier." * NAQT State Championships may be chosen as qualifying events by other organizations running national championship tournaments, but if the other organization wishes to brand the tournament in any fashion or get involved in any way that publicizes itself, NAQT will need to review and approve such participation by January 1, 2001. -- R.
