Caveat: I only watched a tiny portion of the show (on and off for the last ten minutes or so...). But I think I saw enough to make an evaluation... I was, frankly, pretty insulted that this sort of thing was portrayed as proving anything about "who the smartest" anyone is. I mean, plenty of people have noted that there isn't really a correlation between GPA and PPG...some people manage to keep their GPA's pretty high and be good quizbowlers, but definitely not a tremendously huge proportion. And many of the smartest people I know (and I'm assuming many of you guys know people like this too) pretty much suck at this. People who are able to reason things out, people who have great critical thinking skills...it doesn't necessarily mean that they'll be good at qb. I'd be interested to see an IQ spread among qbers...I'd venture that it'd be surprisingly large. Bottom line: intelligence just doesn't mean that you know how to spell "kaleidoscope". It doesn't. And if convincing Americans that raising kids who jump through intellectual hoops is healthy for anyone makes a bunch of Fox executives' pockets very well-lined, then I just hope they find some really excellent crack to spend their hard-earned dough on. Because I'm just *waiting* to find out what demeaning concept they'll think of next. Yours, Victoria
