Congratulations to State College Area A (PA), winners of the NAQT 2000 High School Championship Tournament, held in Atlanta, GA, this weekend. State College defeated Governor's School (VA) in the double-elimination finals. State College had been undefeated in the playoffs until Governor's School won the first game of the final series. Fifty-six teams competed, each of whom played eight preliminary rounds. From that point, the top 16 teams by record (some 6-2 teams faced each other in a tiebrekaing qualifying round) entered double-elimination, while all other teams played in Swiss-paired quads to determine a full ordering from 1 thru 56. Statistician Mike Burger should have full results soon. Congratulations to all competing schools and thanks to all who helped out. Matt Bruce NAQT P.S. In their first round Sunday morning, State College and Riverdale (TN) combined for 915 points in a 655-260 victory for SC. I don't know whether this is an NAQT record for combined points but we're looking into it. If it is, then they deserve kudos for setting it. Even if it isn't, then not only do they deserve kudos but the teams who *did* set the record also deserve mention and kudos. On a personal note, thanks to R. Robert Hentzel for flawless reading in the finals and to Sarah Bruce for flawless scorekeeping.
