"Celador Productions (those groovy folks who developed WWTBAM) are working on a game show--to be premiered in Britain, then brought over here to the states--called "The People Versus." " Yup, we've been paying attention over here (in the UK), and have utterly failed to notice this one... However, there is a new show being filmed now by the BBC which is their next Big Hope. Worryingly, it seems to be old-hack-proofed. It's called "The Weakest Link", and starts with 9 contestants (who haven't met before the show). They answer questions in turn for increasing amounts of money (20, 50, 80, 100... up to 1000) which is credited to a team total (i.e. for all nine players - it's a bit like WWTBAM but in turn). You can bank before your question, which removes the risk of losing the current position. The maximum for one round of 3 minutes is 1000 (either in one go, or in a few blocks). After each round, every player writes on a piece of card which one of their fellow players they would like to eliminate - the "weakest link". The one with the most votes goes, and then they go again to add to the total. Once two players are left, they then play head-to-head for the full total of the prize money. Of course, you are supposed to vote for the weakest, but there is nothing to stop tactical voting. They also do spot interviews, asking for reasons for voting, reactions to being voted out, etc. To give you an idea of how keen the BBC are on this, they are showing it daily with a theoretical maximum of 10,000 (about $6,500). That's big money for the Beeb! I'm filming in a week or two, I'll report back on how it plays... Rob (now at home in Brighton, UK).
