This is a reposting of the initial announcement for the Terrapin Invitational Tournament, which will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2000. This is an open tournament to all undergrad and graduate school programs including masters teams (which are ineligible for the title). With tournaments taking place in St. Louis, MIT, and Berkeley the same weekend, there is some competition, but I encourage all teams (including fresh/sophs) to come to College Park. NOTE: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SUBMIT A PACKET, but you can if you so choose. NOTE: The next deadline for packet submission will be this Sunday, 10/1. For those who have let me know they are coming, it would be nice if I had some packets to edit...:) Details: The tournament will be all day Saturday, with registration beginning at 8am. Of course, the format will be mACF - however, I am aiming for a level of difficulty slightly below that of ACF regionals. There will still be quality ACF clues and subject matter that should be answered by most of the teams attending by the end of each question, but part of the benefit of ACF is the ability for you to write about what you think is important in qb. Fees: Base entry $100 Butt-early question deadline Sept. 1 (-$40) - ya missed it Kinda-early question deadline Sept. 15 (-$30) - ya missed it Better get workin' on yo packet, sucka deadline Oct. 1 (-$10) Absolute last deadline and you STILL want to submit a packet Oct. 15 (-$5) NOTE: if you do not want to submit a packet, we will still let you play - please, however, notify me of your intentions by 10/15. Buzzer discount: $10 each Moderator discount: $5 each Over 500 miles to come and play: $50 or best offer Absolute minimum: $50 Distribution: 25/25 5/5 lit 5/5 hist 5/5 sci 3/3 fine arts 2/2 religion/myth 3/3 social science 1/1 trash/sports 1/1 geography Another NOTE: this is a _recommended_ distribution. (ie. if you want to send me 2/2 social science and 2/2 trash, I'm not going to send the packet back.) However, please try to cover all the categories listed, and allow me some flexibility in choosing which questions to use based on the nasty but inevitable occurence of repeats across packets. Further information will come at a later date, including location and directions. At this time it appears that the tournament will be a fullround robin with some type of playoff, but if there is enough interest in a second division it is certainly a possibility. Please let me know if you are interested in such a Division II. As a final thought, if you have any apprehensions whatsoever about the Terrapin, the potential difficulty of questions for fresh/sophs, the Maryland teams of the past, traveling a long distance, the drinking customs of late 20th century british pubs...anything...please e-mail me - i will be happy to answer whatever the inquiry might be. Cheers, Shaun Hayeslip Editor, 2000 Terrapin Invitational Tournament
