The University of Pennsylvania Academic Demolition Team is proud to announce PENN BOWL 10: A BUZZER ODYSSEY the nation's largest packet-submission tournament. PB10 will be a timed tournament held on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA, on FRIDAY AND SATURDAY, JANUARY 26-27, 2001. Exact times and locations will be announced later, but we expect game play to start around 7 PM on Friday and end around 7 PM on Saturday. Chimera and other non-traditional teams may be allowed to compete with permission of the tournament director. *** PACKETS Schools sending one team are required to submit a packet of 20 tossups and 20 boni. For schools sending more than one team, the A and B teams are jointly responsible for sending a packet of 36 tossups and 36 boni. Schools may submit more than the minimum amount required, but should e-mail the tournament director for advice *before* doing so. Also, please be aware that teams that do not submit the questions required by the regular deadline of 7 December 2000 may be fined or dropped from the field at PADT's discretion. *** GAME FORMAT The rules will be fairly similar to past Penn Bowls; any major changes to the rules, such as the inclusion of power tossups or lames, will be announced by 31 December 2000. *** TOURNAMENT FORMAT The format of the tournament has not been finalized, but we guarantee all teams the opportunity to play 14 games. The field will initially be capped at 60 teams. As we confirm the availability of equipment and staff, we reserve the right to expand the field up to 75 teams. *** FEES Base fees: First team: $135 Second team: $110 Third and subsequent teams: $95 each Packet discounts (full/half): Extremely early (31 October 2000): -$30/-$15 Very early (11 November 2000): -$20/-$10 Early (22 November 2000): -$10/-$5 Equipment/staff: Buzzers: -$10 each Clocks: -$10 each Full-time moderators: -$20 each Other discounts (per team, one discount per school): One-way travel >700 miles: -$25 One-way travel >1000 miles: -$45 One-way travel >2000 miles: -$70 Missed PB9: -$10 Missed PB7, 8, and 9: -$40 Canadian teams: -$45 Teams outside the US and Canada: -$70 Minimum fee: $30 per team *** REGISTRATION Registration will begin immediately.
