The inaugural Fall Novice Invitational (Illinois mirror) took place at the University of South Florida on October 21, 2000, with 22 teams in attendance. Congratulations to the winner Florida Community College-Jacksonville (FCCJ) and runner-up University of Florida "B". Both teams finished their round-robin play undefeated (there were two divisions of 11 teams each). In the semifinals, FCCJ defeated the host USF-Green team, and UF-B defeated its fellow team UF-A. FCCJ topped UF-B in the final for the championship. FCCJs Chip Thomas (75 ppg) was named tournament MVP, and Florida Atlantic University's Kevin Bush (62 ppg) and South Florida Community College's Deric Markham (52 ppg) also did very well. The initial feedback I got was that the questions were very good but a little on the tough side for a novice tournament. Still, several teams averaged more than 200 points per round on them. I personally liked what I read. Thanks to all the schools for their participation. It seemed like everything ran fairly smoothly, and I appreciate everyone's good attitudes.
