But the larger point is that WeyounClone has not offered very many facts, mainly partisan opinions. I will add two statements to the ones Jeff already quoted: (1) "A Daley has been reduced to howling about ballots that clearly pointed to what each selection meant as a sign of 'voter fraud'." That was a low blow worthy of Andrew Golota. No son should be held responsible for the sins of his father. Richard Daley Sr. was a corrupt, insensitive bastard who likely contributed to Kennedy winning the 1960 election. Both Richard Daley Jr. and William Daley are highly competent, honest individuals and public officials. I also take issue at how clearly the ballots pointed to each selection (see below). (2) "If you accidently voted Buchanan, you don't have any walking around sense. The ballots had arrows and numbers. It made no sense to vote for Gore given how misaligned his name was to Buchanan's hole." First, a good number of Palm Beach residents (Jewish ones, specifically) would never vote deliberately for Buchanan. That aside, if you take a look at the ballot, the choices were relatively close together, and Gore's box overlapped at least 50% with Buchanan's box. Plus Gore's punch hole appeared almost entirely within Buchanan's space as well as his. If you are an elderly voter, it is fairly hard to see the difference. Are you going to argue against making a ballot as clear as possible? Or do you believe that elderly voters did not have the right to choose the candidate they wanted? As for the 19,000 voters whose ballots were thrown out, I would like to see how many of those were "Gore-Buchanan." (Though I have less sympathy for someone who willingly submitted a ballot with two holes punched, I also would like to know if any of those voters asked for a new ballot and were turned away [illegally] by voting officials.) -Adam
