The Quiz Bowl Team at the University of South Florida (Tampa, FL) is pleased to announce that it will be hosting the ACF (Academic Competition Federation) Southeast Regionals at USF on January 19-20, 2001. The University of Tennessee-Chattanooga is the next closest school hosting ACF Regionals, and it is about 400 miles from the Florida border; so there should not be much geographical overlap of potential attendees. We would be very pleased to welcome all Florida schools and any from South Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi or whoever would like to come south during January for some high-caliber Quiz Bowl action. Here's the deal: you write an ACF-style packet (guidelines may be found at: http://www.inform.umd.edu/StudentOrg/maqt/acf/writers.html), and submit your packet to national tournament editor Subash Maddipoti at: suby10_at_.... He would prefer it as an MS Word attachment, but he will accept RTF, and least favorably as in-line text. HOWEVER, if you are a team playing in ACF for the first time, you do NOT have to write a packet, AND you can get a huge discount!! The first packet deadline is Dec. 3. Here is the fee structure: Base fee ... $75 Packet discounts and penalties: (the packet must be received by midnight CST on these dates to count for the appropriate discount) Packet received by December 3 ... -$30 Packet received by December 10... -$15 Packet received by December 17... -$10 Packet received by December 31... No penalty Packet received by January 5... +$15 Packet received by January 10... +$25 If you have not sent in a packet by Thursday, January 11, don't bother submitting one unless you've made arrangements with Subash. If you don't want to write a packet, but still want to play, it may be possible to purchase a free-lance packet for your team. Please e-mail Subash if you would be interested. Other discounts: Equipment discounts: -$5 per buzzer set, maximum of 2 discounts per school (though you're welcome to bring more buzzers) Moderator discounts: -$10 per competent official Multiple team discounts: -$5 for a second team, and -$10 for each team after that NOTE: Only A and B teams have to write packets; additional teams will not be required to do so, though they can (to get the packet discount, for instance). New team discounts: If your school has not played at an ACF regional tournament in the last three years, your teams do not have to write packets, and you will be charged a base fee of $55 (with the other discounts in effect) Minimum fee: Regardless of discounts, no team will be charged less than $40.
