Duke University, located somewhere in the kudzu-infested regions of Durham, North Carolina, is pleased to announce that, contrary to popular opinion (and wishful thinking), they will host Tobacco Bowl v1.1, a Junior Bird tournament, on Saturday, February 3, 2001. UNFORTUNATELY NECESSARY AND OBVIOUS DISCLAIMER: Please, no need to remind any one of last year's fiasco. And, to fix things, I will attempt to make an announcement at Penn Bowl, the week before the tournament, and say _with 100% certainty_ if the tournament has enough teams to be worthwhile. This will be accompanied by a post here, and one on the other group. (This is on both Yahoo and qb_at_, so I can't be too specific.) ANYWAY, the point is that what happned last year has no chance of happening this year, if only because I'm not dumb enough to do it. (Before anyone asks, I will *not* go over "what happened last year" in public; if you have any questions, I'll discuss it privately.) Back to the tournament proper: As mentioned before, it will be held on 2/3/01. No need to submit anything: we have enough questions that we've been piling up over the year that we can pull this sucker off on our own. I'm saying it's a Junior Bird tournament, although that is hardly set in stone; that's merely a reflection on question difficulty. If the non-JB-eligible players also express enough interest, we'll open the field. We're flexible like that. With that in mind, here's the pay schedule (which is the same as our MLK high school tournament* because, well, we're an equal opportunity money-grubber): - $75 for the first team - $65 for each additional team - $10 buzzer discount - $15 for a question purchase - $20 if you simply want the questions without showing up (you know, postage and handling and all that) To sign up for this tournament, I would recommend emailing one of the resident Cameron Crazies on the team. The contacts for this tournament are Darren (dja3_at_...) and myself (apg_at_...). Both of us will be happy to take your registration. Thank you for showing patience, not to mention forgiveness, and we look forward to seeing you on February 3rd. Andy Goss Duke University Quiz Team * - Update: We are currently at 13 teams from eight schools in five states for the Duke Academic Festival number whatever. It is on 1/13/01, and registration is of course still open. Details are at http://www.duke.edu/~apg/mlkhst.htm as far as lodging for both tournaments and stuff.
