The University of Pittsburgh Quiz Bowl Team is proud to announce the return of its spring high school tournament, Battle of the 'Burgh III. This academic quiz style tournament will take place on the University of Pittsburgh campus on Sunday, February 25, 2001. The announcement is also at: <a href=http://www.pitt.edu/~epsst13/qb/burgh.htm target=new>http://www.pitt.edu/~epsst13/qb/burgh.htm</a> Last year's tournament featured 18 teams from across Pennsylvania, with State College A defeating State College B in the finals to win the tournament. State College A proceeded to win the national title at the NAQT tournament at Georgia Tech. We hope to build on the success of previous Battles of the 'Burgh and the fall Pitt tournament, Supernatural Ice Bowl. As the premier high school tournament in western Pennsylvania, we would like to see our field expand beyond the immediate Pittsburgh region. Teams from beyond the region are heartily invited to attend. QUESTIONS: We will be using set IS-23 from NAQT, high-quality material written specifically with high school students in mind. The winner of the event will automatically qualify for NAQT's High School National Championship in June at the University of Michigan. Rules can be found at <a href=http://www.naqt.com/rules.html target=new>http://www.naqt.com/rules.html</a> FIELD: We hope to at better last year's field, though we reserve the right to cap the field above 26 teams. Teams are guaranteed at least 9 games. Schools can reserve two team slots now and put a third on a waiting list (teams with buzzers may automatically register three teams). FEES: Base Fee: $70 Additional Teams: $60 Buzzer System: -$10 New to Pitt tournaments: -$15 Travelling >300 miles one way: -$20 MINIMUM FEE: $45 REGISTRATION: Teams must register at least one week in advance and inform the tournament director of any other tournaments the school has attended or will attend this year (this is merely for question security purposes). Payment must be made by or on day of the tournament. For more information, or to register, please contact: Eric Steinhauser, Tournament Director e-mail: epsst13_at_...
