[Kristen posted a news report about Britain exporting "The Weakest Link"] For those of you with long memories (like, beginning of the summer), you may remember that I posted a short note about this new BBC quiz show that they had high hopes for, and a few assorted types groaned loudly. Guess their hopes were justified. For all the criticism of the "evil" format of the show, it is actually really great fun to play. I filmed a show back in the summer (sadly falling just short of winning) which has now been shown twice, and I can't wait to have another go at it. It certainly not a quiz show in the standard sense of the term, in that knowledge is all that matters - rather, there's a hefty tactical element to the show as well, in making sure that you don't make too many enemies along the way. It's going to be fun to watch other countries find their answers to Anne Robinson - the act that she puts on (and yes, it is an act - she's fine as soon as she leaves the studio) is superb. Everything she says is precisely what you want to yell at the ignorant fools as you're watching them on screen! As a footnote to all the gay icon stuff, it might have been with this article or another, but the aforementioned Ms Robinson did indeed pose in leather with a whip for a newspaper. It was the funniest sight ever! If and when the show goes into production over there (and elsewhere), go for it as soon as possible, before everyone else works out the tactics having seen it on TV. If anyone gets on, give me a shout before you film (rjl_at_...) and I'll explain a few do's and don't's that might help. Finally, as I seem to be good at this soothsayer stuff, the latest BBC high hopes are on "Sudden Death" (which I reckon is the one to watch, having done the pilot show) and "Ruthless". Oh, and we've now got WWTBAM "Couples", which is hilarious to watch for all the marital strife! Oh, and happy new year everyone! Rob.
