This afternoon, while editing packets for Penn Bowl, I discovered that one of the questions was identical to a question that was read in the Yahoo! chatroom earlier this week. While this is not a case of plagiarism per se, the question nevertheless is now compromised. I trust all of you understand the serious problems that can develop if such questions are used. However, having been an inadvertent party to actual plagiarism in the past---and seeing the havoc it wreaked---I am determined to make sure it is not repeated here. So, let me be perfectly clear. It is *your* responsibility, not PADT's, to make sure the questions you have submitted are pristine. Therefore, if there is any possibility that any of your questions have been compromised or submitted to other tournaments, I strongly urge you to check your packets. If you discover questions that are or may be 'tainted,' AND you contact me by January 20, the only penalty that will befall you is that you *may* be asked to write replacement questions. After that date, though, any discovery of tainted questions will result in PADT taking whatever actions are necessary to preserve the integrity of Penn Bowl. If I sound overly harsh, my apologies. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at <samer_at_...> ASAP. Samer T. Ismail Tournament Director, Penn Bowl 10 26-27 January 2001 http://www.pennbowl.org/pennbowl10
