If I learned anything from running Yale's HS
tournaments for three years, it is this: even if the
questions were edited by God himself--and He came down to
run the tournament--there would *still* be people
complaining about it.
With 300 people, I cannot please
everyone (and, I think they have found, neither can NAQT):
anything that pleases some people will undoubtedly annoy
others. Moreover, I am human. I tried to do the best job
I could. Did I do it perfectly? No. But the
questions were significantly better after editing than
before.
And, as far as "upsets" go: I see upsets as something
that should be allowed to happen. They shouldn't be
encouraged, but they shouldn't be prevented, either. I agree
with those people who think that, if upsets can't be
allowed to happen, then we might as well forget about the
buzzers and just administer a written test.
And
are a diverse field and accessible packets *bad*
things, Mr. Goodman?
