The Department of Energy held the Science Bowl Regionals for Maryland, D.C., and Virginia. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and have a fair amount of fun. After bracketed play, the top two teams in each division in MD and VA made a 6 team double-elim format - D.C.'s top four (all in one division) made double-elim playoffs. Double-elim results for those who care... D.C. Georgetown Day beat Banneker St. Anselm's beat Wilson Georgetown Day beat St. Anselm's Banneker eliminated Wilson St. Anselm's eliminated Banneker Georgetown Day won over St. Anselm's Virginia TJHSST beat St. Anne's Belfield. Woodbridge finished 3rd. Other teams to break were Herndon, St. Stephen's/SA, and Governor's School. Maryland I saw the most and got my money's worth. J.M. Bennett and either Seneca Valley or Landon were two and done. Leonardtown led Blair at the half, then lost the lead and was eliminated by Wooton. Centennial led Blair at the half before losing a close game in the winner's bracket, then beat Wooton again to get a rematch with Blair. Centennial beat Blair handily in the first game to set up a winner-take-all tilt. Centennial led Blair at the half (sound familiar?). Blair then got three straight tossup-bonus combinations to take a lead, after which things seesawed. Needing to get the last tossup to have a chance to win, Centennial responded incorrectly. Blair wins. Hayden
