To the best of my knowledge that has never been tried before (certainly at least not in the last seven years, and no, Harvest Bowl doesn't count)--which doesn't mean that it's a bad idea. I don't think the concept is inherently flawed, although I suspect that the biggest problem would be figuring out how to run the tournament, both in terms of logistics (how many packets, what types, etc.), but how to determine the winner--especially if potential matchups don't occur (e.g., if Chicago played Michigan only on ACF, and played Illinois only on NAQT). Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing something like this tried. [FWIW, though, I am someone who believes that reasonable, well-planned innovation(*)--even if it is innovation for innovation's sake--should never be shunned. I tend to think more highly of tournaments that try to do something novel, even if it doesn't work.] --STI (*) I approved of the idea of 'character classes' that was proposed for one trash tournament, and would still like to see *that* carried out at some point, too. The problem I had with it was the fact that it was announced so close to the tournament itself, in a manner that seemed to 'blindside' most teams. If that had been sent out in the original tournament announcement, I think it would have been received more favorably.
