<<Yeah, but a lot of times if you have two teams from one school playing each other, the lower one will have an unofficial agreement with the higher one not to win, especially, I think, in single elim tourneys with difficult fields.>> If my coach or teammates had told me to do that in high school, I probably would have quit right then and there. This is a different situation than throwing a preliminary match against another team from your school so both teams can make the playoffs (about the ONLY time I would encourage my team to lay off a bit, and even that would be doubtful.) But throwing a match in the playoffs?? <<Not to mention that those players probably play each other every week in practice. People pay to go to a tournament to see how they stack up against other people.>> Which one hopes was achieved in the preliminary matches. With a random draw for every round a la UEFA cup, some teams might have a tougher road to the final that others in similar situations, too. <<I agree that in certain playoff systems, it can't be helped, especially (for a school with multiple strong teams) in the later stages. But I think it's generally a good idea to keep such situations to a minumum.>> I don't regard it as much of a problem at all, really and truthfully.
