If you don't want to know what happens on TV on Thursday, April sixth, don't scroll down... As many of you know, I recently taped an edition of WWTBAM, which will broadcast April sixth on ABC. However, I have decided to break the "wall of silence" to let you know that on this episode I indeed get in the Hot Seat. I also want to let you know that I made a little history on the show, but it's history no one is proud of making. You see, I became the 10th player in show history to get on the Hot Seat and pull a goose-egg. My Achilles heel was a question that the previous generation would have gotten with ease (at least that's what the previous generation told me after the taping), and what my generation would have struggled for a long time on (ditto). Am I disappointed? Yes. Am I embarrassed? Somewhat. Am I bitter? No. Five-six years ago, I wouldn't have had the chutzpah to get up on national television and appear in such a forum. I had enough of a problem appearing before a handful of people at a meeting, fearing I would make such a faux pas and look like a fool. But through hard work and practice I worked on overcoming those fears, and when I entered that studio my head was held high. For those of you asking whether the JD was old returned after I went down to defeat (and you old timers know what I'm talking about - let's just say Johnny Depp has nothing compared to how I can wreck a hotel room :) ), the answer was a resounding "no." I took my defeat gracefully, disappointed that I came home empty-handed, but proud that I've come so far from an introverted, scared man to, at least for one moment, an extraverted, vivacious individual. I may not have left New York richer in my wallet, but I did leave richer in one regards. Just conquering my lifelong fears and phobias is victory enough. James Dinan jdinan_at_...
