So my final word on Edmund's "ceremony" -- and I know it's not just him, but he is the one who got up there and wasted twenty minutes of my life -- is that it reeks (a very appropriate word here)of snobbery, something most people agree destroys the fun of any competition. Just because you're a great quizbowl player doesn't mean you can walk on water. There are plenty of people out there who make this game fun. I've lost to Dwight Kidder, Craig Barker, Julie Stalhut, Mike and his friends at Arkansas, C W's D Party, among dozens of others and had a lot of fun in the process because these people have learned to be competitive and human beings at the same time. Am I saying that people should not be critical of others in the game? Of course not, but when your approach is one of criticism for the sake of image improvement rather than for constructive reasons, then it becomes Elitist, Snobbish, and d****d unnecessary. Think about the reasons why you might hate this game sometimes. Does it have more to do with the people you play against, or the questions you get read? I willing to bet it's more the former than the latter. With that in mind, I apologize to anyone offended by my comments or my team's play this weekend, and I look forward to seeing many of you again this weekend in St. Louis. PPS: Also, anyone who wants to contact me personally on this matter, may do so at blasmo_at_....
