First of all, I had a good time this weekend at TRASHionals, I was satisfied overall with the questions quality, but I will save those comments for later. Now, onto the Deb Fuller awards. I was the only nominee who was actually present, and though I actually said something in passing that was offensive to many at TRASH Regionals, I didn't think it should have been presented in that fashion. I played many teams from all over the country, many of whom I hadn't played before or only played once or twice, and did not know what I had said, and I felt that I was being smeared. I accept Edmund's apology, and I understand that he thought it was tounge-in-cheek, but it came off incorrectly. Our team name (Worst Episode Ever) and Tim Young and mine's individual names (Strategic Desk Relocation and Top-Shelf Player) were intended to be a sendup of the unfortunate incidents at regionals, and both of us tried mightily to not exhibit any bad behavior in matches. However, the whole thing speaks of a larger problem. The qb circuit is getting like the People's Front of Judea vs. The Judean People's Front of the Life of Brian, constantly shooting themselves in the foot when there is a chance to capitalize right now. Trivia popularity is at an all-time high right now. Pop Culture is basically the new religion of the American people. I hope you all realize that most of us personally know 7-10 contestants on WWTBAM, and many of us have been on lifeline lists. QB doesn't have to be a cliquey and cultish as it is, and there should be a market for different skill levels of players. People get put off by the way the very good players act. I am seeing a significant downturn in the amount of people who continue to play who are not great players, but enjoy the game, and are willing to do administrative work and run tournaments. People like this seem to be dwindling, and this needs to be addressed. Thank you to anyone who read this whole thing. Phil Castagna
