I didn't get chosen, but here's some information on how the D.C. tryout went. People were herded into one room around 80 at a time. You then filled out a questionnaire, took a fifteen-question test, and watched a tape of the show while they collected the applications and chose the eight that they wanted. It took a little over two hours. The questions were diverse and not overly difficult - most quizbowl players should have little difficulty getting 10 at an absolute minimum (I hit around 13). Here's what else there was so that you won't be surprised if you try out. 1. Roll call - The person calling it looks at you for a few seconds after they call your name. 2. Questionnaire item #1 - What would you do if you won a million dollars? A more successful application than mine was said to have said "purchase a small state and declare every day 'Naked Day'. People were expressly warned not to talk about paying bills, travelling around the world, or getting little Joey his operation. 3. Questionnaire item #2 - Tell them some interesting things about yourself. There were three lines, but people were encouraged to relate _numerous_ funny/interesting stories, so the more is probably the merrier. The person running the process kept things very light - I get the feeling that they want the show to be more humorous than its UK version.
