However, I feel there are two other arguments against it which make it unnecessary. First, part of the experience of playing in a certain tournament is to enjoy the spectacle of the final. I know I would sure be put out if I had to miss the final to play another decider match. It would also not exactly have the feel of a final, as everyone would be watching the other games. This could perhaps be worked round if it were played in the same room as the final beforehand, but that could conceivably end up adding an hour to the schedule when most teams are loathe to hang around. Also, the whole idea of the undergraduate title is to recognise the team that did best against the competition without graduate players - it is not like Division II, which is viewed as a separate competition even when the fields are combined. In this respect, it bears a closer resemblance to the naming of tournament all-stars, for which it would be laughable to suggest holding play-offs. Just my tupennyworth. Rob.
