This message is to announce the 1st annual Antonin Artaud Tournament of Cruelty (was the Summer of Kleist Memorial, a name that has been retired for a multitude of reasons). The questions for this tournament will be written in house by aspiring U of Michigan players. The format will be straight up ACF. Many have you have heard that last year's Summer of Kleist featured the most difficult questions in the history of people asking each other questions. We can guarantee that the questions this time around will be more reasonable (we learned our lesson, we promise). However, let me note that the tournament will still be Masters level. The tournament will be held on August 11th, 2001 at the University of Michigan. Fees and such will be forthcoming. We would like to make this preemptive announcement to see what kind of interest there is in us running a tournament. We would be amenable to a date change once we know how many people are actually interesting in coming. Otherwise, the tournament will be written and unplayed for reasons of pure masochism. Let me also take this opportunity to note that some of the difficulty of last year's tournament was due to the inexperience of some of the writers. This has been somewhat corrected over the course of this year. We have also been talking about including a new format change, namely a 40 point single question to precede each bonus. (If you answer it correctly, you can forego the bonus entirely.) Anyway, its just a thought, and we aren't sure at this time if we are going to use it. Thats about it. Email me (paul_litvak_at_...) with questions/comments/interest etc etc etc
