"The thing that separates Nicklaus from Yaphe is that Andrew does not seem to have an obvious Arnold Palmer type who was great before him and with whom he has duelled." Ahh, the wonderful ignorance. Ever heard of John Sheahan, Jeff Johnson or Georgia Tech? They have something to do with the fact that Yaphe didn't win a national title until his junior year. While Andrew's dominance has come after most of these players left the scene, Johnson and Sheahan were battling each other until 1998, which was Yaphe's final year at UVA. And I'm not sure, but didn't UVa beat Sheahan's Chicago in '97 and Johnson's Harvard in '98 for the ACF title? Both Sheahan and Johnson were dominating players and each led their programs to the ACF-CBI double in 1994 and 1995, respectively. And while I never saw the great Georgia Tech teams play, a quick look at the great statistical advantage between them and the teams they beat show just how dominant they could be at their peak. So there has never been one great rival to Andrew; there have instead been several. That people have trouble remembering them just attests to his dominance over the last three years. Finally, congrats again to the Chicago team for their NAQT victory. Maybe next year Michigan will be 20 points (or four negs) better and finally beat the bastards!
