And now for something on a slightly different note... There has been a dearth of commentary about the quality of questions about both NAQT and ACF this year, and I thought I would address that with a few choice words from a so-called "self-made player." First of all, to all those who would portend to sully the proud name that is ACF, need I remind you all about this year's ACF regionals, touted by many, from all walks of quizbowl life, as some of the finest academic questions ever compiled. Kudos to Subash in particular for that job. And I would like to use this public forum to actually praise (gasp) the questions at this years ACF nationals. I am no Andrew Yaphe by any stretch, but as an aspiring third year player, I was more than pleased with both the form and the content of this year's questions. I am not one to draw comparisons with other format's questions, so I will spare you a tedious comparison with NAQT or CBI or whatever. Furthermore, it is a severe misconception that the ACF magnates are a bunch of misanthropes who only care about the elite player. When I first began playing, I was, quite frankly, the worst player on my team. But the encouragement that the top players at Michigan (as well as other ACF luminaries) bestowed upon me motivated myself and others at Michigan undergraduates to work to contribute to one of the deepest teams in quizbowl history. In no way are they elitist. They just care about people who care about the game. And thanks to them, we do. Paul Litvak, soon to be huge.
