Some clarification: 1. Let me first applaud David Isaacson's distinction between an attempt to insult the Princeton B team (which of course I was not trying to do), and an attempt to present an argument concerning the placement of the teams from the Mid-Atlantic region at the ICT. Perhaps I was not clear enough, and as before, the argument is just as valid for Maryland as it is for GW. The gap between the top Mid-Atlantic teams and the teams that finished near the bottom are sufficient to conclude one of three things: A. UVA and Princeton A are clearly better than the rest of the top Mid-Atlantic teams. Perhaps - I would not refute such a statement. B. The Mid-Atlantic, outside of UVA and Princeton A, is not particularly strong...therefore, even if Matt Weiner had been playing for DI and Penn had been playing their top 4, the results would not have been much different. Well, also perhaps, but the stats seem to indicate that the Mid-Atlantic is a relatively strong region. C. Therefore, statistically it appears that there is a gap in teams between UVA and Princeton A, and Pitt and Penn. Considering the fact that GW and Maryland both finished at sectionals above Penn and what I would project as a Matt Weiner-less Pitt, it is _likely_ that both GW and UMCP (if they had qualified), and Penn State, (if they had attended), would have finished in that middle region (11-24ish). Keep in mind this statement is not an absolute (see point A). 2. Princeton B is a team that does better with harder questions. Yes, this is an oddity on the qb circuit, but the Maryland team seems to fall in the same category. [For both teams, see results for ACF nationals 2000, when we finished the preliminary round in a circle of death with Michigan A] Therefore, I would expect Princeton B to have a better showing at the ICT than what the statistics from NAQT sectionals dictate. Princeton B was 10th in pts/TU out of the 16 at-large teams; therefore, I was including them in my last post just for argument's sake. 3. In reply to Eric: I am not trying to say anything about the way you all played. Rather, I am just looking at the record and the statistics, nothing more, as NAQT did during regionals. If I was in the same position, I would do the exact same thing as per the rules do not state any opposition. Pitt earned the right to have teams in both fields, and should have been in both. However, now that someone has indeed won the DII tournament, I am encouraging NAQT to change the rule and allow the DI and DII competitions to be mutually exclusive once qualifying begins. The fall tournaments should allow teams to choose their rosters for each division, with allowances only for moving up, not down, in the system. -Shaun
