Ooo... another Louisianaian playing qb. I think that puts us up to three (four if I were playing). Quiz bowl is more fractured than other national competition formats, most likely because of the insularity that Matt mentions. I know there are many different ways each state org runs its state championship, for those in which there is one. Unless and until there is a movement to actually nationalize these formats, it won't happen; and then once there is a national organization, it won't happen because there are so many q-writing companies invested into writing questions "their" way. I won't say that I'm not surprised that you were not aware of Loyola New Orleans being a location for Chip's competition, but a few N.O.-area schools did know. Some of them competed at Chip's tournament because it was "in town," but they have never competed anywhere else. In fact, to my knowledge, only a handful of schools ever travel outside Louisiana to compete... my alma mater Caddo Magnet even went out to Furman University (SC) and Brookwood (GA) while Mike Landry's St. Mary's (Natchitoches) also competed once at Brookwood. I've tried from my own alumni influence to get Caddo Magnet to play at more comps, and I'm glad to say they do play at A&M and up at Northside and Arkansas. It disappoints me though that they still will go to Chip's tournaments rather than try out any of the others. (I've told the principal and former coach as much.) Again, I think that unless and until there is a foothold in Louisiana with a college club that will run HS competitions in the same manner that A&M, Arkansas, and Oklahoma do, the La. teams will be just happy playing at Cajun Classic and doing their own thing. And it's not that I haven't tried to get word about the PACE or NAQT tournaments across to Mike Landry and LAAC, but until there is a physical presence touting all these tournaments, no one is going to go.
