Had a chance to catch the premiere of Weakest Link last night (4/16). Was it worth the hype NBC's been giving it the past couple of weeks? Yes and no. As Ms. Gaughan notes, the contestants are dumb. VERY dumb. As you can probably tell, the contestants were chosen more for their personality, charisma and physical characteristics then their intelligence. When I tried out for the show in D.C. (I wasn't eligible because of WWTBAM, but I just tried out for the heck of it - I didn't tell them about the Regis show), I answered 13 out of 15 questions correctly in the prelim. But I didn't qualify for the second round - the contestant coordinator admitted they were looking for outrageous, unpredictable and charismatic players - how many you got right was just a small part of the selection process. They didn't want a contestant who said they would invest and travel if they won a million, they wanted somebody who would "buy an emu farm" or "purchase a gold-plated toilet." Weakest Link contestants sound alot like Greed contestants to me. Hey wait a minute - Laura Chambers was/is the contestant coordinator for BOTH SHOWS!! No wonder! (shudders) Still, I thought the show was entertaining, the questions were better than 21 and Greed (but still on the level of a $200 J! question), and Anne Robinson was halfway-decent. James
