National Academic Quiz Tournaments, LLC, is pleased to announce that it is now accepting bids from high schools, colleges, and other institutions to host State Championship and Qualifier Tournaments in the 2001-2002 competition year. State Championships should be held between February 1, 2002 and May 9, 2002. Interested hosts should e-mail naqt_at_... by August 3, 2001, to indicate their desire to host. NAQT hopes to announce the selected hosts by August 17, 2001. NAQT prefers state tournament dates that fall between March 15, 2002 and April 28, 2002, but realizes that earlier (or later) events may be better suited to local schedules. Interested hosts should indicate the reasons why they believe that they date that they have selected is optimal. Important information: * State Championships must be run according to official NAQT rules (which may be found at http://www.naqt.org/rules.html) with the exception that they may be run untimed. Hosts that wish to run a timed tournament but fear a shortage of clocks should contact NAQT to see if it would be possible to borrow some for the tournament. * The application to host must be made by a team member or advisor who plans on remaining with the host institution throughout the 2001-2002 competition year and who intends to take an active role in the planning and execution of the event. * Hosts may choose the format, but it must guarantee teams at least 8 games. 15 packets will be provided by NAQT. NAQT suggests that single-elimination play-offs not be used. NAQT also suggests that point- and head-to-head-based tiebreakers not be used to determine championships or play-off qualification. * Hosts may divide the competition into divisions in a way that is appropriate and traditional for the state or region. * Hosts are responsible for purchasing and awarding trophies and other prizes for the event. The precise nature of the awards to be given is left up to the host. * High schools that are awarded State Championships and which do not receive bids to the High School National Championship Tournament (HS NCT) at other tournaments, will be awarded one invitation to the National Championship. * Order-of-finish and win-loss records must be reported to NAQT within 24 hours. Complete team stats (institution, team name, division, win-loss, tossups heard, tossups, power tossups, and interrupts) must be reported within 72 hours. Complete individual stats (full name, team, year in school, games played, tossups heard, power tossups, tossups, interrupts) must be reported within 7 days. Hosts' automatic bids are forfeit if stats are not submitted in a timely manner. [ continued ]
