All right, anyone who flames this message can answer to Khon and his Dental Drill of Doom. Survivor III: Africa premieres a week from Thursday (October 11). As I did with Survivor II, I will be running a handicapping pool. There is no entry fee, and the grand prize is my copy of 4th Edition Benet's Readers Encyclopedia, which I will either mail direct or hand-deliver at Penn Bowl 11. This contest will feature two phases: a pre-phase, worth up to four points, and the main contest, worth up to 23 points, for a total of 27 points possible. In the Pre-Phase, you will select the six contestants you believe will _not_ make it to the merger. You will earn 1/2 point for each correct selection. In addition, you will choose which of the two tribes (Samburu or Boran) will have more members remaining at the merger, or if they will have an equal number. That correct trinary selection is worth one point. The Main Contest will run just like last spring's contest. Once we know the ten contestants that make the merger, you will order them from 1-10, with 10 being the first voted out, and 1 the Ultimate Survivor. For every correct pick, you earn two points. For every pick you are off by one, you get one point. You earn five points (instead of two) for correctly picking the Ultimate Survivor. Ties for the overall contest will be broken based on selecting the higher exact finishing contestant. Deadline for entry into the Pre-Phase is Wednesday, October 10 at 11:59 PM EDT. You do not have to enter the Pre-Phase to enter the Main Contest, though you could be at up to a four-point disadvantage. Deadline for the Main Contest will be 11:59 PM EDT the night before the first post-merger episode. Please send all inquiries and entries to KhonHoc_at_...; I will have a tracking of the contest on my website hopefully on October 11. Good luck, and I hope a lot of people enter! -Adam Fine
