BRRR 2001: "We have questions?? YOU have answers!!" was held on the campus of Cornell University and ended at approximately 6 PM local time. Nine teams showed up for the event and played a full round robin in the "Call me now for your free readin'!" stage. The top 4 teams advanced to the "STAY AWAY FROM THAT MAN!!" Bracket while the bottom 4 advanced to the "I keep it real." Bracket, while the Cornell frosh sat out. However, Ursinus, which finished 2-6 in the round robin, left before the playoffs, shrinking the lower bracket to three teams. Pitt, with a total record of 9-2, won the tournament on the last bonus over Case Western Reserve. Here are the results. The "STAY AWAY FROM THAT MAN!!" Bracket: 1. Pitt (8-0 prelim, 1-2 playoff, 9-2 overall) 2. Case Western (7-1, 1-2, 8-3) 3. Michigan (5-3, 2-1, 7-4, beat Maryland B 2-0 head to head) 4. Maryland B (5-3, 2-1, 7-4) The "I keep it real." Bracket: 5. GW (4-4, 2-0, 6-4) 6. Maryland A (4-4, 1-1, 5-5) 7. CMU (1-7, 0-2, 1-9) The teams that left early: Ursinus (2-6) Cornell frosh (0-8) Unfortunately, I was unable to procure Miss Cleo related goods, so Pitt took home a boxes of Cornell chocolates, and Case Western received Cornell EZ-grip ballpoint pens. Dave Hamilton was the leading scorer, and he received a large Cornell coffee house-type mug and Matt Weiner received a normal Cornell mug. (In fact, you could say, in regards to the individual stats, that Hamilton licked Weiner...) Mark Pincus, the Cornell frosh's answer to Nathan Freeburg, went 16-15 to win the neg award, and Genvieve Romeo, the woman in the tiara from Ursinus won the accuracy award, but since they left before they could receive their prizes, Josh Levit took home a Cornell shot glass for having the next-most negs, and Dan Greenstein won an orange Cornell visor for going 21-1 in the preliminary phase. Thanks to all who participated, to Tim Young, Dwight Kidder, and the Cornell team for moderating and helping out, and to Seth Teitler and (sorta) Anthony de Jesus for providing freelance packets. We will probably run BRRR at around the same time next year, and we hope to see some more teams come out. Full individual stats to come in the next post. Jason A. Keller, BRRR 2001 TD and "Smile Boy."
