<<How does CBI work - is the Regional tournament the only tournament you're guaranteed?>> First of all, greetings to yet another Small Liberal Arts College In The Northeast. :) If your budget's limited, I can't disrecommend CBI enough...their basic fee is $300 for first-year schools, which they jack up to $600 for returning schools, and you're only guaranteed the one tournament, using a rule system that's basically an archaic version of the current standard. If you're interested in league events, ask after: ACF: http://www.inform.umd.edu/Student/Campus_Activities/StudentOrg/maqt/acf/Welcome. html NAQT: www.naqt.com TRASH: no homepage, but the representatives are numerous. Just wave your arms around a bit at any tournament and you'll find someone who knows who to talk to. In terms of tournament fees, if not necessarily hotel expenses, you can probably go to each of the above events for the same cost as going to one CBI tournament; also, you can send more than one team to each of those events, if you have the people, whereas at CBI you're strictly limited to one team. Of course, there are also a bunch of independent tournaments...those are listed at http://tourcenter.tripod.com/ . Finally, get yourself listed in the Maize Pages directory at http://www.umich.edu/~uac/mac/maize/directory.html . Realtime interactive information about quiz bowl events is available in this club's chatroom, usually every evening around 10-11pm to the small hours of the morning. Good luck.
