Bob Carlisle, a leader with quiz bowl at Quincy University, died Wednesday in his apartment. Bob was a key figure in starting QU's quiz bowl program in the 1980's, and served as the assistant coach for several years in the early 1990's. He was a moderator at almost every QU tournament, and took over as faculty sponsor of the team for the 1999-2000 academic year. I can't say I knew him well, and I hadn't talked to him since my own graduation years ago, but he was always a very generous man who was active in the university community. He was the star of the faculty team at QU's "Faculty Challenge" quiz bowl events, and another player and I defeated him on a "Beat Bob at Trivia Night" only with great difficulty and ridiculous luck. He was the hall director for my dorm freshman year, and tended to tolerate the antics of his freshman guy residents with appropriate humor. He was an avid Star Trek fan (that year the entire dorm was decorated with a Trek theme) and served as a mentor to many students with needs. He was also an avid feminist and a pillar of QU's liberal society on gender issues. As my Hall Director, he once told me that his dream was to get into administration and maybe become a dean. At the time of his death, he was QU's Associate Dean of Academic Support Services, and received the Quincy University Service Award in 1995 and 2000. Peace be upon him. Brian Ulrich QU Class of 1999
