Hey I don't discount that. The great players took their lumps early and devoted themselves to working hard, writing questions, and improving themselves. I'm not saying that's a bad thing; that's a choice each person who plays in qb must make, and if the environment is right, that person commits himself/herself to getting better. I agree preparation and hard work is about 90% of the determinant of success here; the other 10% is buzzer speed (to me). Again, I'm just saying that we were trying to increase opportunities for those of us to develop. It's not an indictment against graduate students (regardless of experience), and it's not that we're trying to block out the best teams from attending. Rather I think it's an opportunity for us to showcase talent and compete at a comparable level, similar to the goals of what junior birds and fresh/soph comps are about and I think what the NAQT undergrad title rewards. Besides, there was a caveat that allowed us to have graduated players return to play for their former teams and (hopefully) help write packets for them too (I think we set it up to 6 months post-Bachelors). At any rate, I think people liked the experience and I hope that more people would consider doing undergrad-onlys or other "social mixer" comps to help expand our base to be more inclusive and get more teams hooked to play at the various nationals.
