Congratulations to Florida Atlantic University A and Emory C for winning, respectively, Division I and Division II of the 4th annual Center of the Known Universe Open. COTKU 2001 was held at UT-Chattanooga on Sat. 10/20/01. In Division I, second and third went to (respectively) Kentucky A and Vanderbilt; in Division II, Wofford and Snead State CC took 2nd and 3rd. Before going into the full results, there are a lot of people to thank. Editor-in-chief Ben Lea and his crew at Missouri-Rolla provided the bulk of the questions, and Matt Levine and his cohorts at Cal-Berkeley contributed several much-needed rounds. House readers and officials who worked hard for the garlic rolls included Stephen Taylor, Jason Russell, Scott Sanders, James Washick, Joseph Dion, Keith Hidson, Phil Groce, Chris Hendry, Mark Dawson, Patrick Riser, Wally Edmondson, Mark Rupright, Chris and Shannon Sloan, and Ernie, whose last name I have shamefully forgotten. Even with this many house officials, we also needed and got help from several volunteer readers and scorekeepers from the bye teams. My thanks to all. And of course thanks go to UTC stats goddess Dorothy Morisch, who coped with 31 teams and several computer and paperwork problems and still produced full stats within minutes of the round robin's end. Speaking of which, those results will follow in the next message...
