Out of curiousity ...
I would simply love to
see the question to which Nathan referred, in which
he did not buzz because he felt the question had not
yet distinguished between Ganesh and Skanda. The
statement that "'he was the god of this and that'" is
"almost meaningless in Hindu mythology made me raise an
eyebrow (my roommate the Sanskritist joins me in the
eyebrow-raising).
FWIW, "son of Shiva" doesn't necessarily
mean Ganesh at all ... more of the sources I've read
claim that Ganesh was the parthenogenous son of
Parvati. *shrugs*
