Normally, I wouldn't post results of a high school tournament here, but I thought that what happened today merited discussion... Anyway, to make a long story short, we (DCDS) took 2 teams to a tournament at UM-Dearborn today. The schedule handed out at the tournament showed a dash as our opponent in the second round, and we took this to mean that we had a bye. While watching our B team compete during this round, the TD came in screaming, saying we should be playing CC 5 (yes, 5! they brought 5 teams!), and that he announced as much at the morning meeting. After we're like "uh, no you didn't", he realizes that he completely forgot to mention that. So anyway, we head off to play CC 5, except we've already heard 3/4 of the questions in that round...so this same TD decides that he'll just construct a game from the tiebreaker questions (I did point out to him that he was scheduled to have a round of 16, but then cut to only having 8 teams break, but he didn't respond...sounds like someone didn't write enough rounds, but whatever). So he does as much, though this round only has 5 toss-up/bonus questions instead of the usual 8. Anyway, it was a very inexperienced team, so it didn't end up mattering. Later, in the semi-finals, our opponent answered _Mark Antony and Cleopatra_, when the answer should have, of course, been just _Antony and Cleopatra_. After this same TD initally decided to accept their answer (!), Lafer and others rose to our defense. However, instead of giving us the points, he read only to us one of the 2 tiebreaker questions he had left. So then it was on to play CC 1 in the final. Down by 45 heading into the final round, (15 tossups at 15 points each) we were down 60 with 4 questions to go...at which point we answered all 4 of these to come back and tie the game... At this point, we all start laughing hysterically as we realize that he has ONE question left. Byko, who's moderating, doesn't want to just read the one question, and i don't think anyone else wants that either. After a meeting between the 2 coaches, Byko, and the TD, they decide that Lafer and Jeff Shattock (both UM qb guys who were there moderating) along with Byko, some other dude, and the TD, will go into another room to WRITE MORE QUESTIONS! So that was that. We sat there for twenty minutes or so, tied in the final game, while our tiebreaker questions were written. I'm relatively new to the scene here, but has this ever happened before? My team was just amazed at the hilarity of the whole day (though I don't think CC shared our emotion)...I'd like to hear of any similar stories, if they exist... And oh, we won...we got Couloumb's law, then they got John Cage, then we won with Edward the Black Prince. ---Amber, DCDS
