I'm going to venture to answer this question since I helped high school debate teams with this issue a while back. Some successful fund-raising projects: 1. Bake sales - if possible, do these during lunch in the cafeteria or off to the side - have kids bring in items like brownies, cookies, cupcakes, etc., and sell everything for fifty cents. Kids usually snap them up. A good additional thing that makes a lot of cash is to bring 12 packs of soda, and sell them for 50 cents each (cheaper than most high school vending machines). Bring brands not available in the school - Coke products if the school has Pepsi machines, etc. - kids who are devotees will snap these up. On a good day, my debate team made $300 from one bake sale. 2. Candy sales - most areas have companies that sell candy to school organizations at a discount price. Give each kid a bag of candy to sell during pass periods for two weeks. Target freshmen - they tend to buy the most. 3. Rummage sale - as a sideline to a carwash, set up tables and have the kids and parents bring garage sale items that they would be willing to donate to the team and basically have a rummage sale alongside the carwash. You can make good money here, too. 4. Events for little kids - Easter egg hunts, stuff like that - we used to do a breakfast with the Easter Bunny, where we had one team member dress up like the Easter Bunny in this huge homemade costume, charge parents to bring their kids to eat breakfast with the bunny, get a picture taken, and do a little easter egg hunt. Once you get established in the community - tons of people come out. Of course, all of these are contingent on the school's permission, and on the team member's willingness to take time out of their lunches to sell at bake sales, to sell the candy, or to help out on weekends for rummage sales, as well as for the parents to buy or make the baked goods, sodas, and contribute the garage sale items. If you surmount these obstacles, you can make a lot of money. -Ramey Ko
