[This is going out to various mailing lists, so disregard after the second time you get this note.] It's about 11 days to MLK tournament day, and here's the status of the tournaments: Entry fee for each team is $110 plus $15 if you do not submit a packet (new programs or others receiving waivers excepted) unless discounts are otherwise listed. More about the packets in a bit... Emory A (packet recd) Emory B (-10 additional team, -30 packet recd) Emory C (-10 additional team, NO packet) Furman (-5 buzzer, +20 questions, NO packet) George Washingon (-10 buzzer, -10 reader, NO packet) Maryland A (-5 buzzer, +20 questions, +5 late packet) Maryland B (-10 additional team, NO packet) North Carolina (packet recd) South Carolina (NO packet) Tennessee (-25 new program/required packet waived, -5 buzzer, +20 questions) Virginia (-5 buzzer, -10 reader, NO packet) Wofford (-5 buzzer, -10 reader, -15 packet recd) TWELVE teams Yet to hear from: North Carolina Central (-25 new program/required packet waived) If you still have a packet in progress, please contact David Thorsley as soon as possible. They have their deadline for this weekend and must get their questions done by then. They are still calling for packets from anyone outstanding in both Michigan and Duke fields. David assess the packet penalties and reports them to me to enforce, so if you wish to petition for some relief in the packet penalties, please ask him. After MLK has been completed, Edmund Schleussel and Tim Young will administer the newest installation of Heavy Rotation, their all-music audio round. Everyone is heavily encouraged to participate. Ann B. Davis: The tournament fee is $95 per team with discounts provided for when packets (if any) are submitted to Mike Burger prior to January 15. (if submitting packet, the tournament fee is $60 if packet is sent in by December 10 + $1 per day after December 10). Discounts are for buzzers ($5 per max 2), readers ($15 per max 3), and for a specialty/theme packet ($10, submitted to Mike). Minimum entry fee $35. Here's who I know so far: George Washington (-10 buzzers, -15 reader) Loyola College (must confirm) Emory/UNC (must confirm) THREE teams I know I haven't done a lot of followup on ABD, but I really would like to know if you want to compete for this tournament. In the past, ABD has been a lot of fun for all attendees, with appropriate mix of pop culture and trash to satisfy everyone's needs. If the expense of participating is a problem, please let me know. A final decision on the status of this tournament will be made by Sunday, January 13 (I will first consider running of ABD on Saturday evening after Heavy Rotation before cancelling altogether; otherwise I will consult all the registered parties and decide whether change in format is feasible though I have a feeling that it won't fly). Please note: I retain the right to put in house teams of Duke novice players to make the logistics of either MLK or ABD work. If your team is not on the list but should be, please let me know. I have plenty of room for more teams.
