Sudheer quipped, "All I know is that when I play a game of quizbowl at the D2 level on NAQT questions, I'm expecting to play a game with players who have at least close to the same amount of experience as I do." Why? Such was certainly not the case at DCDS, so I really don't understand why you expect it to be the case in college. To me, NAQT's modified rules are a step in the right direction---a step towards drawing the divisional line where it should be---between undergraduates and graduates. It seems to me that if you go into college as a freshman and can see a 4 year progression similar to that which you would have gone through in high school (or similar to what you would go through in any other intercollegiate activity), you won't be discouraged by losing to teams full of inexperienced players. To use your former team as an example...we lost a very large number of games to Ike and CC last year. However, those of us behind by a year were able to learn from that experience, and it has helped us achieve better success against those teams this year due to the discrepancy in graduated players. Under the current system, where players can play indefinitely long against college sophomores, it's a bit harder for those sophomores to keep hope, consequently placing a greater emphasis on their winning as freshmen...and thus, their wanting to only compete against freshmen, because they know it'll be their only chance to win for a long time. In short: the fairest line divides between undergrads and grads, and NAQT's latest move is a step in the right direction. Just another $0.02, Amber, DCDS
