I hope the D II playoff glitch has been explained to everyone's satisfaction; if you still have questions, e-mail me at steinhic_at_... and I'll fill in any missing details. Bottom line is, I screwed up in announcing the seedings for the playoffs. My able deputy, Steve Taylor, fixed it (in consultation with me between cell phone dead spots in northeast Alabama) and I appreciate everyone's patience. The underlying cause was that we originally scheduled this as a Friday-Saturday tournament per several teams' request, then moved it back to Saturday only by almost unanimous consent -- most of the teams that had requested it were Florida-based, and having a sectional at USF fixed the travel problem. However, between decisions, I made out-of-town travel plans which involved other people counting on me, not to mention me laying down some serious money in advance. I opted in Solomonic style to split the difference, stay till the playoffs were set, then drive all night to make my Sunday AM brunch in New Orleans. It was in my personal state of discombobulation surrounding all that that I misrecorded the head-to-head and thus screwed up the seedings as announced. I hope the fact that Tennessee eventually had to win 3 out of 4 vs. Rhodes A to advance backs up the validity of the fianl outcome. I also sure hope that given the formidable competition, NAQT will give Rhodes A, Emory A, and Georgia Tech serious consideration for at-large bids for the SCT.
