I think I have to post something like this every couple of years for the newer players. Grad school status does not equal superior experience, playing ability, etc. I did not get into the game on a serious level till grad school. There *was* no high school quizbowl in Tennessee when I was in high school, and I went to a CBI-only school as an undergrad. In 1989-1990, eligibility rules barring grad students kept me from playing in several tournaments where I would have been the least experienced player on my team, having been to a whopping four intercollegiate tournaments in my life -- three of which were double-elimination. Without my grad school experience, I would have neither the knowledge nor the enthusiasm to do what I do now. So if you want to go Children of the Corn on grad students, fine -- but take off the schedule the three original intercollegiate tournaments we're running here at UTC (not to mention two high school and six trash), and find someone else to run the other 3 intercollegiate ones (ACF Fall, NAQT Sectionals, ACF Regionals.) You'll probably have to find a new bunch of moderators, too -- a lot of the ones we use wouldn't have had the experience to want to stick around in their post-collegiate days to help. Of course, most of the question writers will be gone too, but I'm sure you'll be happy playing on questions written by your fellow freshmen. And whoever's left, y'all have fun.
