Delta Air Lines Reduces Amount of Time Customers Must Spend at Airports ATLANTA, March 25, 2002 Delta Air Lines today announced, effective immediately, it is reducing the recommended airport arrival time for passengers on domestic flights from two hours to at least one hour prior to flight departure to reduce the amount of time its customers must spend in the airport. Since wait times can vary significantly by time of day and airport location, Delta customers are encouraged to check delta.com/travel for estimated wait times at their departure airport to allow adequate time for check-in and security screening. "We've seen improvements in airport wait times over the last several months," said Vicki Escarra, executive vice president and chief marketing officer for Delta. "Delta continues to work with local airport authorities to find ways to save customers time." New Check-In Time Requirements Beginning April 15, Delta will require customers to be checked-in and at the gate for their domestic flights at least 15 minutes prior to departure, rather than the previous 10-minute limit. This change will help Delta ensure an on-time departure by allowing more time to effectively process and board customers. Customers are still required to complete baggage check by 30 minutes prior to flight departure. "Our customers tell us that on-time performance is a critical consideration when they fly. Delta will continue to make adjustments to ensure on-time departures and meet our customers' expectations," Escarra said. To avoid cancellation of a reservation and seat assignment, customers are encouraged to observe the following minimum check-in requirements: Minutes before departure Requirement 15 Checked-in at gate for domestic flights 30 Complete baggage check for domestic 45 Checked-in and at gate for International flights * Federal regulations permit one carry-on bag plus one personal item only. Delta Shuttle customers who are at the gate with a boarding card at least five minutes prior to departure will be boarded on their flight. Baggage must be checked 15 minutes prior to scheduled departure on Delta Shuttle. Customers are encouraged to reconfirm their flight schedules with Delta (online at delta.com or by calling 1-800-325-1999) before they arrive at the airport. Passengers may use delta.com for ticket purchases and flight information, as well as to check estimated peak and off-peak wait times for curbside check-in, ticket counters and security checkpoints at approximately 115 airports in the U.S. and Caribbean. E-ticketed customers, traveling domestically, may bypass airport ticket counter lines altogether by using self-service check-in kiosks in select airports, or by using one of Delta's virtual check-in options. SkyMiles members can now check-in and print boarding passes at delta.com. Medallion members can also check-in using the telephone and via Web technology with personal digital assistants and mobile phones. Please check delta.com/checkin for details.
